About the rescue
Clement Rabbit Rescue provides a safe haven for neglected and abandoned rabbits, with a strong focus on rehabilitation. Education and awareness is central to my work, particularly in addressing the rabbit rescue crisis and promoting correct, compassionate care.
Why rabbits?
In 2016, while working at a well-known pet shop, I witnessed a metal crate of baby rabbits delivered for sale. Tragically, half of the litter had already died, and the remaining rabbits were in critical condition. By the end of that day, all but one had been euthanised.
Bertie was emaciated and covered in his own urine and faeces. With little prior knowledge of rabbit care but a strong determination to help, he was taken home to my university accommodation with the hope of rehabilitation. Against the odds, Bertie survived and went on to become a cherished family member.
That experience was a turning point. It exposed the harsh realities of the breeding and selling trade and highlighted just how overlooked and undervalued rabbits’ lives can be. What began as the rescue of one rabbit grew into a lifelong commitment to advocating for better welfare, education, and compassion.
I shared seven wonderful years with Bert before he passed away in July 2024 due to a brain tumour. While his loss was heartbreaking, his legacy lives on through Clement Rabbit Rescue - a place dedicated to giving rabbits the care, respect, and second chances they deserve. At Clement Rabbit Rescue, every rabbit matters.
